The station has been inserted in the program to readapt the principal Italian stairs, carried out by Grandi Stazioni, company managed by the Ferrovie dello Stato.
The zone that is managed by Grandi Stazioni is extended over 97.070 m2, of which 92.747 m2 is covered by buildings. Of these, 44 146 are part of the first phase of the readapt ion.
With the realization of this project, the surfaces designated to services for travel, restoration, shopping, culture and leisure should register a considerable increase, determined by the realization of new structures and travel systems.
The opening of the readapted station, foreseen during the first months of 2009, was respected with the inauguration of the station on February 4th 2009.
The station has parking lots for handicapped near the station entrance.
Tourists in wheelchairs can access the tracks through the entrance at via Sacchi 5. The ticket office, the assistance and the waiting hall can be easily be used by clients in wheelchairs.
The access to the trains is guaranteed by the lift trucks and wheelchairs.
