The under water disabled champions Benedetta Spampinato and Martino Florio have been the first t “dive” in the Archaeological Underwater Tactile Path inside the Protected Marine Area (AMP) Ciclopi islands in Aci Trezza, and they couldn’t hide their happiness: “we are very happy because finally also blind, short sighted and disabled can enjoy and admire archaeological pieces. It’s a big conquest, now we are more autonomous also in the sea like the others”, explained clearly the two athletes. In fact, we are facing a permanent path (promoted and realized by the AMP Ciclopi Islands, City of Aci Castello, University Centre for the Custody and Management of Natural Environments and Agro-eco-Systems (C.U.T.G.A.N.A.), Department of Archaeological, Philosophical and Philological Studies of the University of Catania, Superintendence of the Sea, with the cooperation of Life Onlus and of the Institute for Blind “Ardizzone Gioeni”) that appears to its observer like a wonderful mixture of marine biology and underwater archaeology, also thanks to the eight anchors dating back to the I century b.C., to the reproduction of the ancient amphorae and to the fictile fragments found in the bay.

Sebastiano Tusa, Superintendent of the Sea, declared, right after the inauguration: “we wish that initiatives like this one will multiply in short times even if the Superintendence of the Sea, created in 2004, already realized 20 parks in Sicily”.
